Happy Holidays from Redwood Audio!

Well the year came and went in a flash!  There are a few updates in the works to be looking for soon – including our first tutorial on DSP plugin development.  There are amazing tools out there which lower the barrier of entry for people starting to develop their own audio FX, we hope to explore them and share a few pointers here in our DIY section.  If there are things you would like to see there or you have any other ideas or questions for the team – please don’t hesitate to contact us.

In the mean time, we are in and out of the shop for travel which included delivering the BG1 bass to its new owner.  What a great experience that turned out to be! – we were invited in for a jam session with his band and treated to an amazing set with mix of classic rock and blues vibe.  It was really amazing to hear the bass come to life on their rig! From the first few exploratory notes on a new instrument to opening it up and letting it really sing – it certainly filled its part next to the drums and lead guitar.  But more importantly, it brought a glow and a sly smile to his face, more than enough for us to sense it was a job well done and motivate many more to come.

Happy Holidays, best in the New Year – and Stay Warm!

Sincerely,

Redwood Audio BG1 – Custom Bass

RedwoodBG1 Custom Bass

We are excited to announce the completion of Redwood Audio’s first bass guitar and thus fulfillment of our first made-to-order custom instrument!  Read more about it in our guitars section.  We hope to include sound samples of all our instruments shortly.

It was a delightful build process which also served as a study in some of the classic designs in modern lutherie.  There is something very satisfying in exploring these basics of form and function which draw a focus on quality and craftsmanship.  The selected woods and hardware used for the build did not disappoint either – The result is a traditional bass with plenty of character and very pleasing tones.

As always, if you have comments or ideas for a project you would like to share with us, please feel free contact us.

First Redwood Audio Bass Underway!

Bass 001 Body Underway
The first bass guitar project for Redwood Audio is underway!  This is also a bit of a milestone for us as it represents the first piece specifically requested from our workshop.

The wood is ready for working, hardware is in stock and the first stages of construction have begun.  In an obvious nod to the classic Fender Precision Bass®, it will feature a double cutaway body contoured for comfort and a single split-coil humbucking pickup (a “Fender Original” ’62 in this case) with standard volume / tone control.

However, wood selection for the project has deviated from the common formula of alder or ash.  Instead using a lighter piece of mahogany topped with book-matched spalted maple.  The neck will be more standard – maple with an ebony fingerboard.  In respect of Fender’s trademarks and design rights we will of course be utilizing our own distinct headstock design.

Check back soon for more details on the project as they unfold.  If you have comments or ideas for a project you would like to share with us, please feel free contact us.
